Corporate Training | The 10 Job Skills You’ll Need in 2020 and Beyond
According to The Future of Jobs Report1 2016, 65% of children entering education today will end up in careers that don’t yet exist, and much of this will be attributable to the rapid advancements of the Fourth Industrial Revolution.
The above sounds sobering especially when many of us have children who are still within or entering the education system, and we are still trying to adjust to the disruptive impact caused by the 4th Industrial Revolution’s (4IR) robotics, artificial intelligence, augmented reality, virtual reality and the like. While we’re still struggling with the effects of the 4IR, experts are already talking about the 5th Industrial Revolution (5IR). In the Fifth Industrial Revolution, humans and machines will dance together, metaphorically. At Davos 2019, an event sponsored by Forbes, MIT and Tata had the theme “Blockchain+AI+Human = Magic”2.
With these impending changes, the top 10 skills recommended by the same Future of Jobs WEF report would unlikely change as these 10 skill sets are crucial in handling the uncertain future.
- Complex problem solving
- Critical thinking
- Creativity
- People management
- Coordinating with others
- Emotional intelligence
- Judgment and decision making
- Service orientation
- Negotiation
- Cognitive flexibility
With human beings still in the equation in 5IR, the ability to lead, have the emotional intelligence and people management skills to coordinate, influence and motivate others towards an organization’s goals would be crucial.
